    The Future of Renewable Energy

    The Future of Renewable Energy

Algae, otherwise known as “pond scum” is the preferred plant for making bio-fuels and other petrochemical replacements. Algae is among one of the fastest growing plants in the world, and about 50 percent of its weight is made up of oil. One of the best things about algae is that it can be found almost everywhere including oceans, ponds, swimming pools, and the common fishbowl. Growing algae can be used to extract the pollutants from coal-fired power plants because it thrives on a high concentration of carbon dioxide as well as nitrogen dioxide. Algae production facilities can thus be fed exhaust gases from fossil fuel power plants, and even breweries, to significantly increase productivity and clean up the air. Sounds like this “pond scum” could be the future in renewable energy. (more…)

    Geothermal Spa

The word geothermal comes from the Greek words “geo” meaning earth and “thermos” meaning heat. Geothermal energy is generated from the heat stored inside the earth. With the steam and hot water produced inside the earth, we can use it to heat our buildings or generate electricity. Geothermal power plants do not burn fuel to generate electricity, so their emission levels are very low. They release less than 1 percent of the carbon dioxide emissions of a fossil fuel plant.

  • What Makes It Green?

Products and services may say they are good for the environment but how do you really know? Are these companies contributing to reduce their carbon footprint? Many companies say they are green or eco-friendly but how do you know for sure?

Companies who can consider themselves green are reducing their carbon footprint in some way. Look for key phrases such as recycled materials, organic ingredients, sustainable wood, hybrid or alternatively fueled vehicles. These methods are evidence that companies are reducing their impact on the earth as well as our future in this extraordinary world.
